What Is Wrong With The Lakeland Ledger’s Staff & Technology
Last night Tracey and I received a phone call from someone saying that there was a horrible accident on 98 near I-4 in Lakeland. The caller mentioned that there was news helicopters flying around and alot of media.
I immediately turned on the TV and watched Chanel 9 Cable News for about an hour and they didn’t show anything. In their defense, they are a Tampa Station, not Lakeland.
So I went on the Lakeland Ledger’s Website and my first few attempts failed. Why? They were having problems with their website. I finally saw a brief post which didn’t say much.
This morning I wake up and immediately go online (to The Ledger). They had the same article on there, never updated. It turns out, a woman and her two very young kids were hit crossing the street. I finally found the not-so-updated story later on.
Out of curiosity I went back this evening and their main page came up fine, but every link to a story is broken. This is what I get:
I’ve had this problem with their website for months now. Every time I try to see the news, they are having problems with their website. I manage several websites and I’ve never had so many problems with any of mine. It’s a simple web content system they use that can be updated much like a MySpace page.
Did you know that the Ledger is owned by the New York Times? Can you believe they have such a lousy support team?
Being Lakeland Residents, what are we suppose to do to get news? Hope another newspaper will compete against them and show the Ledger how it’s done!
