Red Light Cameras in Lakeland Florida?

It’s official, Big Brother will be watching us all in Lakeland. After the test run last week Lakeland Officials have decided to hire a company called “ATS – American Traffic Solutions” based out of Arizona.
Each offending driver will get a citation in the mail at a cost of $125.00 that will not go against your insurance. If you don’t pay up the town of Lakeland will put a lien on your property. Well what happens to offenders who don’t own property? Plus the ticket goes to the owner of the vehicle, not the driver. Is this another reason not to let our kids use our vehicles?
Will we have due process for these fines? Can we fight it? There are many answers left unanswered.
Why not hire Lakeland residents to monitor these intersections themselves? Give them a video camera and shoot away. Let’s do the math, if we pay someone $15.00 per hour that would be $120.00 per 8 hour day. That’s 5 dollars shy of the first ticket. If they bag 10 people imagine the revenue that could come to the city? And we created a job. Have you even looked at the help wanted sections in our local newspapers?
